about

Today is the 30th anniversary of one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time: Nas' Illmatic. Woke up in a mood to RAP this morning and whip up a freestyle of my favorites "It Ain't Hard To Tell" in celebration of one my biggest inspirations.

This is a promotional track only. I do not own the rights to this original song or production.

lyrics

Imma dream til it’s over I ain’t done yet
I just got my day in the sun to let the sunset
Despite some’s best efforts, these haters couldn’t eclipse my shine
They look to copy but, stare for too long you might go blind
Now try to see where I’m coming from
Gotta represent; Im Vincent the 3rd, Antinea’s first son
Since birth everyone could tell I was a one of one
Get 2 more of your homies so it can feel like a one on one
And then I’ll still kill’em before their every heard
This was suppose to be the last one for me titled a Dream Deferred
Langston Hugh’s best work came after this the more you learn
Couldn’t put a period on it & let yall get the last word
I can’t close the write book, I still ain’t write my best verse
Agitate with adjectives, spit the truth that might strike a nerve
And if I said it, I might it; I don’t take shit back
Rappers afraid to get derailed so they won’t get on the same track
A homie told me you always posting pictures in the lab
You always working on your own shit but you barley collab
Told him I do see what happens is
I send back my way verse, niggas get hear I put rapped them and they shelve the shit
After they can’t rewrite it to something better I know it hurt
I might leaked them on SoundCloud, I gave some of my best work
I just be having fun & I ain’t half assin’ shit
I can’t help but give it my all, got too much love for this
I represent a time when rappers gave a shit
I put in time with the pad & pen, I ain’t punching in
So I do this for the soul not the algorithm
To get critique but those who claim the culture but lack the rhythm
And it doesn’t work calling me the old man yellin'
At the clouds when it ain’t working, when what you’re doing ain’t sellin
The new rappers canceling dates, the old ones are selling out
Once they hear that 10 seconds they heard on TikTok they tuning out
What you mean, what you heard, what’s the word huh?
There's more to life than getting fly for the birds huh?
Since I’m turning into the OG here’s a lesson
Trends fade but you never go outta style when what you make is timeless
I feel like Nas, I came in ahead of my time
Then decades later, I’m still rapping in my prime
Fuck a Grammy I still want 5 in the source magazine
Dream ‘Til It’s Over April 30th, then we'll see
